Leah M. Hayes-Fry, J.D.

Real Estate Lawyer/Co-Founding Partner

Where are you from? Spruce Grove, Alberta

What’s your formal title at HFL? Real Estate Lawyer, Co-Founding Partner

Break it down for us, what does that really mean? That I shared the original vision for HFL, a young fresh law firm with a focus on client education and exceptional service, all of which I happily get to provide every day as a Real Estate Lawyer helping clients buy, sell, and refinance residential and commercial properties.

How long have you been with HFL? Since I opened it, so December 2014

In 140 characters or less, tell me what interested you about pursuing real estate law as your career? I quickly realized I had a passion for real estate law and decided it was the only area I wanted to work in. Always fast-paced and never a time to procrastinate.

Why do you do what you do? Real estate is exciting but brings with it a lot of anxiety and misinformation. A bit part of what I love about it is educating my clients on the entire process to hopefully ease some of that anxiety, allowing them to better enjoy the excitement. Likewise, I love chatting with them about real estate investing, ways to pay down their mortgage to meet their financial goals, and explaining the background of what we do and what goes into their sale, purchase, or refinance.

Tell us, what are your legit credentials? I have a diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from NAIT, a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Saskatchewan.

Are you an early bird or a night owl? I consider mornings to be in the middle of the night. Night Owl for LYFE!

The best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Being kind is cool

Sweet or salty? What’s your go-to craveable snack? Pizza. Always Pizza

What’s the best thing about working at HFL? The amazing team we have and the amazing culture we have worked hard to build.

Tell us a fun fact about you that you can share: My wedding (to co-founder Nathan Hayes-Fry) was published in Today’s Bride magazine and it won a handful of awards at the Vancouver Island Wedding Awards including Best Wedding Design and Best Wedding Florals, among others.

Tell us your hidden talent: I can only make 5 things in the kitchen and that’s because those meals have either 2 ingredients only, or they come in a box. Luckily, I married an excellent cook so I guess my hidden talent is somehow making it this far in life without knowing how to cook.

What energizes you at work? Our amazing clients and our amazing team

Who do you admire & why? My parents. They are just straight up the best human beings alive.

What are you currently binge-watching on Netflix? We just finished Vikings so I am currently going through some Viking withdrawals. Waco. Modern Family. Upload.

Favourite go-to local spot (coffee, retail, food etc.)? In a city as entrepreneurial as Grande Prairie, there are too many amazing local businesses to name! 55a Kaffee makes a bomb macadamia nut latte, and Safeway North has a surprisingly excellent selection of pressed juices.
