Real Estate Paralegal (Conveyancer)
Where are you from? I was born and raised in Sherwood Park, Alberta, then moved to Fox Creek and onto Grande Prairie, AB in 2011, but I am still a “Sherwoodparkian” at heart.
What’s your formal title at HFL? My official title would be Real Estate Paralegal. In a nutshell, super awesome over-caffeinated sleep-deprived Real Estate Paralegal in long-form?
Break it down for us, what does that really mean? To me, this means I have put my time in, worked hard and got a cool title.
How long have you been with HFL? I’m going on 3 years! Time flies while you’re having fun I guess.
In 140 characters or less, tell me what interested you about working in a law office? My previous work experience prepared me for this role and now I apply my focus & knowledge to continue excelling at my work which drives my passion for the legal industry.
Why do you do what you do? I enjoy working with people and watching their hopes, dreams and goals turn into their reality. I’ve always had an interest in the housing market and finance industry, and my previous experience in banking allowed me to transition into my current position at Hayes Fry Law. I’ve been lucky enough to have been on all sides of real estate transactions, therefore I have a good grasp of the ins and outs of the industry. A win-win for my clients.
Tell us, what are your legit credentials? I could tell you but then I’d have to kill you. But yes, I do have my high school diploma and a bunch of other courses related to my work, so I just won’t bore you with them.
Are you an early bird or a night owl? It depends – do you want a happy me or grumpy me but you may find both at any given time.
The best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Money doesn’t buy happiness – but it does buy shoes, clothes, purses, sparkly shiny things, wine and fast cars.
Sweet or salty? What’s your go-to craveable snack? Sadly, fruits are my go-to snack – a juicy orange, apple with cheese or else a strawberry, raspberry and blackberries.
What’s the best thing about working at HFL? It honestly doesn’t feel like a typical work environment. I am doing what I love, it never gets boring or repetitive and I work with an amazing team that is like a family.
Tell us a fun fact about you that you can share: I hurt myself less while running than when I am just walking. I have sprained/broken my ankle at least 4 times just walking and only once playing soccer. Ouch.
Tell us your hidden talent: I can diagnose/treat most sports induced injuries I sustain as “I have been there/done that before” thanks to my father who gave me the benchmark for the severity of an injury by asking “can you walk on it?”
What energizes you at work? Coffee always energizes me but I just really enjoy what I do, so it keeps me focused and motivated day in and day out.
Who do you admire & why? My parents because they raised me and that should qualify them as superheroes.
What are you currently binge-watching on Netflix? I’ve started watching Modern Family from the start again. Utterly hilarious and relatable.
Favourite go-to local spot (coffee, retail, food etc.)? Not a short list, but Starbucks for caffeine, Lululemon for those comfy pants, and State and Main or Earls for eats and drinks.
