Trevor Latawiec, J.D.
Lawyer, Corporate/Wills & Estates
Where are you from? The small hamlet of Jarvie, Alberta. A few people have heard of it.
What’s your formal title at HFL? I’m a lawyer focusing on Corporate/Civil Litigation and Wills and Estates law
Break it down for us, what does that really mean? I was actually just called to the Bar so now I am actively practicing Corporate and Civil Litigation and have taken over the Wills & Estates practice. Still learning though, but loving it.
How long have you been with HFL? Since early July 2020.
In 140 characters or less, tell me what interested you about law as a career? The sky’s the limit working here, so I tailored my practice area based on what I personally love – business – and I haven’t looked back. But always room for improvement.
Why do you do what you do? Lawyers play an important role in society, from facilitating commerce to representing a client in a Family Law dispute, lawyers are responsible for much of the day-to-day workings of society. I’m proud to be part of a profession that contributes so much to clients, government, commerce, and protecting the freedoms and rights of citizens.
Tell us, what are your legit credentials? I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Distinction and Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta.
Are you an early bird or a night owl? I transitioned into an early bird a long time ago!
The best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Hard work and dedication are more important than natural ability.
Sweet or salty? What’s your go-to craveable snack? Mini-cupcakes for the sweet side and Doritos for the salty side.
What’s the best thing about working at HFL? The staff and the office atmosphere. Not at all what I expected, but a pleasant surprise!
Tell us a fun fact about you that you can share: I still have a working Super Nintendo that I play occasionally.
Tell us your hidden talent(s): I throw a nasty curveball.
What energizes you at work? People enjoying their time at work, seeing colleagues’ successes and positive feedback.
Who do you admire & why? I admire my parents because they gave my brothers and me the best upbringing a person could ask for. I attribute my success to them.
What are you currently binge-watching on Netflix? Hannibal and Better Call Saul. Waiting patiently for Stranger Things season 4 and The Witcher season 2.
Favourite go-to local spot (coffee, retail, food etc.): I just moved to Grande Prairie so that is to be decided, but I am open to suggestions.
