Leah M. Hayes-Fry
What are your credentials?
I have a Juris Doctor from the University of Saskatchewan, a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge, and a Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from NAIT.
Where are you from?
Spruce Grove, Alberta
Early bird, or night owl?
Oh, definitely a night owl! Mornings are the middle of the night.
What’s the worst hairstyle you’ve ever had?
A mushroom cut when I was very young. But that wasn’t the worst part, the worst part was when I got that mushroom cut permed and then wore it with round Harry Potter style glasses. A close runner up was in high school when I was very much in my punk emo phase- I cut the top of my hair very short and died it blonde, but left the lengths long and dyed them black, purple, pink, and blue.
How would you describe the way you dance?
Chaotic.
Would you rather never be able to use emojis again or never be able to spell correctly again?
As much as I love a good emoji, spelling is important, so I’d have to ditch the emojis.
When was the last time you did something impulsive and lived to regret it?
Well, I do impulsive things quite often, but I can’t really say I regret any of them!
If you could eat only one type of food for a year — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — what would you choose?
I get fixated on foods and eat the same thing for all my meals for months on end. Right now, I’m hooked on kit kats, ritz crackers, and chicken. But really, my answer would be pizza. Always pizza.
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
This business!
What are 3 fun things that not many people know about you?
Let’s see, I absolutely love music and making playlists. Punk, hip-hop, rap, metal, and electronic are my favourites. I once followed a band on tour and have met lots of different bands over the years because I tend to be a bit of a groupie. What else? My wedding was published in a magazine and won a handful of awards. I don’t know if this last one is very fun, but I love a good routine and I’m a skincare junkie, so I very much look forward to my morning and nightly routines.
Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Being kind is cool.
What are you really terrible at?
A lot of things, but mostly, cooking. I’m very lucky to be married to an amazing cook- nobody believes me when I say I’ve never cooked a meal. But it’s true!
What show are you most likely to binge-watch, or movie you’ll re-watch?
I hate rewatching movies, but I don’t mind rewatching shows. I’m obsessed with Vikings and can watch it on repeat. I love Emily in Paris for the fashion and the architecture. Ted Lasso is also good for a rewatch- we love to watch it as a family with our 15 year old son.
The Great Outdoors, or The Great Home Theatre?
Definitely the Great Home Theatre. The Great Outdoors, what’s that?
What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
I love reading and always have a new book on the go, this is a tough one to answer. I love a good psychological thriller! I’m terrible at remembering the names of books because I read so many but Verity by Colleen Hoover is one that sticks out in my mind as a great recent read.
